Dungeness crab claw

Cuddly kittens, werewolves and Santa coming down the chimney are all claws responsible for various surprises. These crab claws have surprises with fewer heart attacks and more pleasantries.

Crab claws are low in fat, high in flavor and sweet like molasses (without the added calories). A typical crab claw has about 20 calories. So add this protein to your weight loss diet plan!

*Fun fact: Out of all the parts of the crab –it’s the claw that holds the most flavors and is usually the favorite choice when making crab that is mixed with any other food. Example: crab cakes, dip or soup.

In this recipe we won’t be mixing the crab with anything else. It’s straight out of the shell crab meat. Dipping sauce isn’t even required. This recipe also works well with crab legs.

“How do they get those flavors inside of those crab claws,” your dinner guests may ask. It would seem like some trickery was at play, and it’s not too far off. I have just found yet another use for my meat injector.

If you don’t have a meat injector yet, YOU NEED TO GET ONE! They are awesome! I use mine all-the-time. They are cheap too -$10-$20 bucks.

If you don’t have one you can try using an eye dropper or something similar.

Ingredients:

  • 12 crab claws, not frozen (Dungeness, Red Rock, Stone crab, Blue crab, Snow crab)
  • ½ cup of coconut milk
  • 1 Tablespoon coconut cream
  • 1 Tablespoon pineapple juice
  • 1 Tablespoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 Tablespoon garlic powder

Method to the Rad-ness:

Preheat the oven to 375* F

In a large glass mix the coconut milk, coconut cream and pineapple juice until the cream is thoroughly blended. Mix in the pepper and garlic.

Fill your injector immediately after mixing.

Pick up a crab claw and insert your injector where the shell divides. Squirt the sauce into each section of leg. Repeat this process for the remaining legs.

Place the legs on a baking sheet and put them in the oven on the middle rack for 15-20 minutes.
